Signs You're Becoming Your Mother!
One day you realize you've become the person you used to roll your eyes at.
When I was younger, I was convinced I would never become my mother.
I wouldn’t worry so much.
I wouldn’t remind people to eat.
I wouldn’t save every plastic container.
I wouldn’t ask my kids to eat their vegetables and fruits.
I wouldn’t worry when my kids weren’t home on time.
I definitely wouldn’t tell people to carry a sweater “just in case.”
And then one day... I heard my own voice.
“Did you eat before you left?”
Wait a minute.
That sounded familiar.
1. You worry about everyone else’s well-being.
Your first instinct is
“Did they get there safely?”
“Did they eat?”
Somewhere along the way, checking on the people you love became your love language.
2. You save things “because they might be useful.”
Gift bags.
Glass jars.
Good-quality boxes.
Rubber bands.
Plastic grocery bags.
You used to laugh at your mother for keeping all of these.
Now you’re organizing them by size.
3. Comfort suddenly beats fashion.
Cute shoes?
Maybe.
Comfortable shoes?
Absolutely.
You discover that life is simply too short for blisters.
4. You start giving advice nobody asked for.
“Take a jacket.”
“Don’t skip breakfast.”
“Drive carefully.”
“Drink more water.”
You don’t even realize you’re saying these things anymore.
They just come naturally.
5. Your kids call at an unusual time... and your heart skips a beat.
The phone rings.
It’s your child.
Nothing seems wrong, but because they’re calling at an unusual time, your mind immediately starts imagining the worst.
“Is everything okay?”
You used to wonder why your mother panicked every time you called unexpectedly.
Now you understand.
6. You actually enjoy staying home.
Friday night.
Fresh pajamas.
A favorite show.
A quiet evening.
And suddenly...
That sounds like the perfect way to spend the night.
7. You appreciate your mother in ways you never did before.
You begin to understand why she was worried.
Why did she repeat herself?
Why did she want everyone to eat before leaving the house?
Why does she always put everyone else first?
Maybe she wasn’t trying to control everything.
Maybe she was simply loving the only way she knew how.
The best parts of her!
The other day, one of my kids did something thoughtful, and without even thinking, I smiled and said,
“God bless you.”
The words came out so naturally that I paused for a second.
Those were my mother’s words.
In that moment, I realized I was becoming a little more like her in the ways that matter most.
Her kindness.
Her care.
Her resilience.
Her quiet strength.
And you know what?
I think that’s one of the best things that could happen.
