When women have money, ownership, influence, and a seat at the table, we can do a whole lot of good with it.
But these four things are not the same.
And having one doesn’t automatically mean we have the others.
Money
Women need money of their own.
Not just for independence or security.
When women have money, we often think beyond ourselves.
Our children. Our parents. Our families. Our communities. The causes we believe in.
Money gives us choices. But money alone doesn’t necessarily give us power.
Ownership
This is where things get interesting.
You can have money but still not have the authority to decide what happens to it.
Ownership means having the ability to make decisions.
To invest. To buy. To sell. To build. To say yes.
And sometimes, more importantly, to say no.
Having access to money is different from having control over money.
Women need both.
Influence
Then comes influence.
Influence isn’t about having the loudest voice in the room.
It is about having a voice people listen to.
It is the ability to shape how money, opportunities, resources, and attention are distributed.
And the best influence doesn’t always come from a title.
Sometimes it comes from your actions.
Your credibility.
Your knowledge.
And the way you carry yourself.
A Seat at the Table
This might be the most important one.
We need to be in the rooms where decisions are actually made.
Not after the decision.
Not when someone asks for our opinion after everything has already been decided.
At the table.
When the money is allocated.
When the strategy is discussed.
When long-term plans are created.
When the future is being decided.
Because you cannot influence a conversation you were never invited into.
And sometimes, we shouldn’t wait for an invitation.
We need to earn, build, or create our own seat.
Imagine Having All Four
Money.
Ownership.
Influence.
A seat at the table.
How many women truly have all four?
Probably fewer than we think.
And that is why our dreams need to become bigger.
We are often taught to celebrate the first promotion, the first good salary, the first house, the first leadership title.
And we should celebrate them.
But we shouldn’t necessarily stop there.
What if the goal isn’t simply to earn more?
What if the goal is to eventually have enough ownership to decide, enough influence to change things, and enough power to be in the rooms where the future is shaped?
And if a woman can reach that place while staying grounded, continuing to learn, remembering her roots, and remaining humble?
That is a powerful combination.
Don’t just make money.
Build ownership.
Build influence.
Earn your seat at the table.
And then use all four to do some good.
